i have an excel file that is approx 45 columns by 250 rows. I would like to
be able to keep my first 4 columns and first 2 rows constantly visible whilst
scrolling through other data. I cannot seem to be able freeze both (i can
only freeze columns or rows - not both) but have seen it done. Can anybody
help?

If the first 4 columns and first 2 rows are A, B, C, D and rows 1 & 2,
then select cell E3. Now find the Freeze Panes command and click on it.
When the Freeze Panes command is given, Excel will freeze all columns to the
left of, and all rows above, the active cell. HTH Otto
