Scroll bar trouble

Mark

I just started having an irritating problem with IE6.
When I click down (or up) on the scroll bar, the page
jumps 2 screens. The problem only seems to be affecting
IE; Explorer, Office, and other non-MS apps all seem to be
fine. Thinking back, the only change I've made in the
past week since the problem arose is installing the
latest/greatest Hotfixes. I've been through screens and
screens of options but can't find scroll bar actions. Any
ideas before I start hackin the registry?

TIA,
Mark

I unfortunately do not have an answer for you, Mark, but
wanted to let you know you're not alone; I'm having the
exact same scrolling issue you described in your post.

I too just downloaded the latest and greatest hotfixes,
and it started after the needed reboot.

It is definitely a side effect of one of the two following
patches (which I applied today):

Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB828749)
OR
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1
(KB824145)

FYI, I'm running Win2k w/ IE6.

problem, scroll, scroll bar, scrollbar, thumb, arrow

A quick search of this newsgroup (probably should have
done it first, but your post was on page 1 when I opened
the group) reveals that this issue has been complained
about by many others.

Not only that, it's purportedly been identified as a side
effect of the Q824145 patch, and reported to MS.

I know, I know, search first, post later...

Oops, only went back a couple of screens on the html
version of the group. Now that it's in OE, I see them!!!

Thanks,
Mark

Hi, Bill.
It is definitely a side effect of one of the two following
patches (which I applied today):

Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB828749)
OR
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1
(KB824145)

It's the latter. I've just confirmed it on Win2K_Pro and
Win98SE. :(

winME too
Q824145 is in Control Panels 'add/remove programs' and uninstalling it
fixes the double scroll
I've unintalled this one and will wait a week or two before trying critical
updates again.

Same problem here. Like you, the only change made that
could create the problem was the latest windows update
installations. Anyone else seeing this problem. Have a
fix?

Same here. Running Win2K on a Dell. I noticed the
problem in Outlook as when looking at HTML formatted mail,
not text.

This is driving me nuts. Perhaps it's time to look at
Mozilla again...

A bug in the Q824145 patch. Microsoft knows about it.
Click immediately under the indicator in the scrollbar or drag the
indicator.
