Script error...

I recently bought an HP Ipaq pocket pc and when I try to install the
programs on the CD that comes with it, I get the error listed below:

------------------------------------------------------

INTERNET EXPLORER SCRIPT ERROR

An error occurred in the script on this page.

Line 8

Char 2

Error: Automation error can't create object.

Code 0

URL: file://G:\autorun\wizzard 1.htm

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

YES NO

--------------------------------------------------------

My Computer is running Win XP Home Edition [Build 2600.
xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 Service Pack 2] with Internet Explorer version
6.0.2900.2180. The CD drive is G:

I spent over an hour on the phone to HP helpdesk but apart from leaving
me with a lot of sorting out to do afterwards, we got nowhere. I
suggested that it could be a faulty CD because it gave the same error
when I tried to install it on another computer running Win XP Pro [but
with the same version of Internet Explorer]. I was assured that the CD
was OK but the session ended up with an offer to send me a new CD anyway!

I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I might trouble shoot this
problem while I wait for the new CD.
Thanks...

It's probably a new security feature in XPsp2 that the script
hasn't been designed to deal with more gracefully.

If you are sure that you want to allow the script to run
check the following boxes

Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer
Allow active content to run in files on My Computer

(in the Options, Advanced tab, Security section)

Uncheck those options again after you are finished whatever
this task is so you aren't exposed to other unexpected programs
executing from files on your drives.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately I still get the same error!
Since I posted the first message I tried the CD that my son in law got
with his [same model] Ipaq and which successfully installed on his
computer.I got the same error so it would appear that it is not the CD.
Looks like I may need to carry out a repair installation of XP!

What does the source look like?
If you are certain that security is not a factor
that leaves the implementation as the cause
--e.g. there might be an assumption about what else
there would be already installed on a system where
whatever this is, is being installed.

Not sure what you mean by "source"! You mean I might be getting
interference from another program on the same system? If so how would I
determine which one it is?

I just noticed the platform. I don't know if you can do what I'm thinking of
on it. You might be better off posting to a newsgroup which specializes
in the Pocket PC. They would be able to know if the implementation
of IE on it allows you to do View Source. (FWIW on a Desktop PC
View Source in IE is Alt-V,c)

Good luck
