Screensavers are gone/grayed out.

Hi I just installed Microsoft's win XP 3-d screensaver. As soon as I went to
the screensavers tab it was totally grayed out except the power saver button
way on the bottom. There is no uninstall in the add/remove tab in control.
The.scr resides in windows directory. Manually removed, then reinstalled, no
effect. Don't want a system restore since I just upgraded to XP SP3.

Try this procedure
Go to START->RUN and type REGEDIT. This will open the registry editor.
Find the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\
Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop

Find the entry that says SCRNSAVE.EXE and delete the key.
Also, if you have an entry that says ScreenSaveActive, delete this key as
well.

Once you do this, you should be able to select a screen saver.
But before doing this, back up the regestry. Quick way to do this is
click on File menu and select Export. It's always a good idea to back
up, even if you are making a minor change suggested by a reliable
source. If you make an error, you have a current backup to restore from.
