Screen

Steve

My screen is showing larger than usual for some reason.
I like to play word whomp and can't see all the letters
at the bottom. I've tried adjusting my monitor to no
avail. I also have a Lexmark X83 that I recently
installed a new color cartridge in. I can't get it to
print properly. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled at
least five times.
Thanks,
Steve

If it is only the icons that are too big and not windows
whose edges run off the screen, or buttons that are too
big then do this:
-Right click the desktop then
-Properties.
-then "Appearance"
Different versions of windows may require you the click
an additional "advanced" button.
under the window with "active windows" and "inactive
windows" images there is a box marked "items" with an
arrow on it.
As you arrow down you will see settings
for "desktop", "icon spacing", etc.
-Click the one that says "icon". There will be a display
that shows color and size. -Default size setting for
Windows icons is 33. If that shows correctly, then exit
out without changing that. Some folks who are vision
impaired increase the size of the icons and text for
better visibility. Sounds like you don't need that. If
that didn't fix it You may have to change you display
settings.
-First reboot if you haven't already
-Check the brand and number on the back of the monitor
you are using because you may need it.

I'll refer you to the WinXP help file for this copied for
you below. All versions of windows from 95-XP use similar
steps.

Is the correct monitor selected in your display settings?
Make sure that the correct monitor appears in Display
properties. If the wrong monitor is selected, Windows
might not use the full capabilities of your monitor, and
you might be restricted in your choice of screen
resolutions.

To check your monitor selection

Open Display Properties in Control Panel.
Click the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click
the Monitor tab.
The monitor that is selected for your computer is
displayed under Monitor Type.

If correct monitor isn't listed, click Properties.
Click the Driver tab, and then click Update driver.
After the Hardware Update Wizard starts, click Install
from a list or specific location, and then click Next.
Click Don't search. I will choose the driver to install,
and then click Next. This provides a list of monitor
manufacturers and models.
In Manufacturers, click the manufacturer of your monitor,
and then in Models, click the model name.

If your monitor isn't listed, click (Standard monitor
type) in Manufacturers, and then choose the most
compatible setting for your monitor in Models.
Click Next, and then click Next again.

Note:

To open Display Properties, click Start, click Control
Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click
Display.
