I'm using Word 2003 and when I open a file, it defaults to screen view. I
want everything to default to print view. I went to the Options menus but did
not see an option to do this.

Thx, Chris

Correction - I am using Outlook 2003 and when I open a word attachment, it
always defaults to screen view.

Thx, Chris

In Word, go to Tools > Options > General and uncheck "Allow starting in
Reading Layout".

Also note that if you open a Word attachment directly from an Outlook
message _and edit it and save it_ then you'll lose your edits as soon as you
close the document. The reason is that Outlook puts the attachment into a
temporary folder before it tells Word to open it, and the "saved" edits go
into that temporary copy. When you close the document, the temporary folder
is automatically deleted and there's no trace of your edits any more. It's
good practice always to save the attachment to a real, permanent folder
before opening it in Word.
