Screen saver?

Anyone know of an interesting or, better yet, amusing screen saver for XP
Home? I'm getting tired of watching that flag jumping around on the screen.

TIA

Just be careful to scan the file for malware. Screensaver files were
a favorite mechanism for distribution of malware.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screensaver

"On older versions of Microsoft Windows the native screensaver format had
the potential to install a virus when run (as a screen saver was just an
ordinary application with a different extension)."

"In addition, on August 5, 2006, the BBC reported that "free screensavers"
and "screensavers" respectively were the first and third most likely
search terms to return links to malware"

Well, I use _FreeScreensaverManager so that I can run old '9x ones;
within that, I use one called CYCLE that lets me cycle round the ones I
like. Thus I'm not sure which of these are '9x and which will work under
XP anyway - just try them, I guess:

Hamster Dance Saver.scr (amusing, and irritating!)

testcards.scr (interesting if you're a sad type)

ssmypics.scr (one of the built-in ones, but point it at your pictures)

http://www.adamdawes.com/windows/win_scr_polymorf3d.html (_Very_
impressive, that one)

http://www.arcadestudio.com/downloads/dinoglade_setup.exe (some rather
fey dinosaurs)

http://www.inner-smile.com/dl_phant.htm (a compilation of 8 'savers - I
actually just have the bouncing oval clock, I find it restful)

3DKaleidoscope.scr

SSDodecahedrons.Scr

FLAMER.SCR (Digital Fireplace)

Zone_Rings_32_Saver.scr (http://www.lollie.com/zonegift.html) (nice
patterns)

And I keep meaning to try copying the 3Dpipes one from my '98SElite
machine and running it on this one, because the pipes one that comes
with XP seems to have lost the teapots, or at least I haven't found the
combination of settings to get them back, if they're still there.[/QUOTE]

Thanks much. Didn't know that. I'll be careful.

Wow! Thank you so much. I never realized there were so many! Decisions,
always decisions! <g>

There are (or used to be; the subject seems to have fallen out of
popularity in recent years, possibly due to their popularity as a
malware vector [you should always check anything you download anyway])
hundreds, if not tens of thousands, of the things out there, both free
and not.

You do know that there are more than just the jumping flag (which itself
can be altered) including with the basic XP, don't you? "3D Flowerbox"
and the pipes one (alias plumber's nightmare) are probably the most fun.
There are about half a dozen, I think.

Just set your PC to blank the screen. Saves power, and your display backlight.

No, I didn't know that! I'll have to check the Control Panel where I
rashly assume the choices reside.

Right click on desktop and choose properties and then screensavers.
