Screen Saver will not come on

I run Windows XP PRO, I know very little about computers
and Windows. However I did get into the "Display" and
then onto "Screen Saver" and set "Starfields" and "Wait 1
Min." and "Apply" and I still have no screen saver, my
desk top stays on all the time. Can someone PLEASE HELP,

Do the same procedure again but before clicking Apply, click "Preview
That way you can check if it activates. If it does not, than you do no
have the scr file. If it does, click Apply and OK.
