Screen Saver, Monitor Power not working

I have a new Dell 4600C with an old IBM G96 monitor.
This is the third XP machine the monitor has been used
with. The screen saver and monito power off are not
working. Have confirmed the settings on both Cotrol
Panel and regedit. When the account is locked the
function DO work properly. I have the Norton suite but
have had it on the previous PCs as well. Any suggestions?

Try defragmenting the drive

(Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter)

If the drive is heavily defragmented then the background defragger
automatically kicks in, interfering with power settings

Since it is a new PC it was not fragmented in the least.
I still ran defrag and the issue still exists. Thanks,
though.

Any other suggestions out there?

Try changing the screensaver, ie using one of the non-3d ones, to see it
that makes a difference
