Screen Saver Malfunction

Since last August (8-05) after one of my MS automatic updates (there were
six) my screen saver started to malfunction. While in any of the 3D screen
savers and the speed set to medium the screen saver will slow down and
eventually stop and lock up. When trying to reinitialize the screen the
screen saver takes an inordinate length of time to disappear and bring my
start screen back from hibernation.
I have searched the MS / KB and can not find a resolution for this problem.
I downloaded the latest driver for my monitor but this also not helped.
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

What about updating the video adapter driver? Visit the manufacturers
website, NOT microsoft updates!

Thank you Bob for the input, but I did get the updated driver from the
manfacture of the computer.

Is your video card by any chance nVidia FX 5200 based? I had this problem,
finally narrowed it down to the driver, but updating didn't seem to help.
Stopped using screensaver (was using the MyPictures Slideshow).
