I have a Dell Deminsion 8300 running XP Pro. The screen
saver only works on one minute and the monitor powerdown
does not work. It is nto a hardware problem because it
works when no one is logged onto the computer after a
reboot. My OS is up to date and nothing in th Knowledge
Base that is suggested works. DELL is not helping except
to tell me to reformat my disks and reload the OS all of
the software. CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP???

Visit the Dell support website, search for the latest video adapter
drivers designed for Windows XP, download and install them.

Hello David,

Does the problem occur with a different User Profile? If no, then you have
corruption in your profile.

If yes, does it occur from Safe Mode? If no, then try the following -

A) Go to Start\Run and type
MSCONFIG <OK>
B) In MSConfig, choose "Selective Startup"
C) Remove all check boxes and click "OK" and "Yes" to reboot.
Then test our issue.
D) If you don’t see the problem at this point, check all except "System
Services" and "Startup Items", click "OK" and "Yes".
Reboot then test our issue.
E) If you don’t see the problem at this point, check all except "System
Services", click "OK" and "Yes".
Reboot and then test our issue.
F) If the problem returns, it is due to a Startup Item. If not, it is a
Service.

For Services:
G) Click the Services tab and check the box for “Hide all Microsoft
Services.”
H) Enable SOME of the disabled items, click "OK" and "Yes".
Reboot, then test our issue.

For Startup Items:
I) Click the Startup tab and enable SOME of the disabled items, click "OK"
and "Yes".
Reboot, then test our issue.

J) Repeat until you track down the offending component.
