On one of my systems all with Vista Ultimate the screen saver does not come
up at all. I set it up for 10 min and less. On resume display logon screen
is checked. Why?

Do you have a specific screensaver set, does it happen with all
screensavers? Have you updated your video drivers? How long has this been
occurring? Have you installed any software or devices since you started
experiencing this problem? If so, what are they?

Do you have Microsoft Mice or Keyboard?
Did you install a critical update from
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/vistaupdate before proceeding with
installation.

This update provides stability improvements to the USB stack under Vista x86
and x64 for Microsoft keyboard and Mice.

I'm having the same problem - have tried all the screensavers, no joy. It
was working fine - just started around Xmas day (at least that was when I
noticed it). Not sure if there was a windows update around then maybe?
Hibernation still works fine, just the screen saver is not coming on at all
so I'm closing my laptop when I go to bed, etc.

Mine is on a HP Pavilion dv9600 laptop with Vista Home Premium.

Well, after I posted this I came to think of possible differences this
system has versus other two. And something came to my mind.

I purchased and installed a more powerful Graphics card, I think it is
Nvidia Ge-force 7600. It has 512Mgb of Ram versus my old (that came with the
machine) 126Mgb. Also I had dual flat monitors all the time. What happened
with this new card was that the split cable adapter did not fit the pins.
This card has fewer pins than the old one for some reason. I think it should
be dual monitor capable, at least I asked for this type but I could not use
my old splitter. I went online and purchased a splitter but I could not
clearly determine if it was the right type since the pins were not quite
visible. It was the wrong type. Both monitors are engaged but they show the
same picture, it is not a double screen. I haven't had time to study the
issue and get a better splitter. I kind of got used to this situation for
now.

I think it could be related to this problem, hardware misalignment but
cannot tell for sure.

thanks.

Answering to Andre:

I have MS wireless mice and keyboard at this machine, yes. It is yet another
distinction.

It happens with any screensaver and I use the same on different machines.

I have installed so much software that I cannot even recall. It is a period
of installation for me. I just setup VS2005, Sql Server Express, VFP9,
numerous SP1,Sp2, etc, resource kits, viewers of different files because my
needs are extensive. I do not play games, and I mean liberally, I do not do
music. I develop software for myself.

Thanks.
