screen resolution

i have a laptop and currently have a resolution of
1024x768. i want to increase it to 1280x1024 but when i
do, it's too large to fit on one screen. it extends past
my monitor edges. is there anyway to change a driver or
something so that it will display correctly? or is my
laptop display too small to handle the resolution?

thanks

Laptops appear to be optimized for viewing at 1024 x 768.. you must have
exceedingly good eyesight to consider using a higher resolution..

Ok, I'm in a similar boat, but with extended desktop and
two monitors. I've got a large monitor in the office
that I use as primary and the laptop monitor is
the 'extended' (laptop is docked). Laptop resolution is
fine. However, when I set the large, primary monitor for
less than its highest resolution (it is just too small
for me to read :( the desktop expands past the viewable
area.... i.e., I have to move my cursor to the bottom of
the screen to 'push' the desktop down so I can see
my 'start' button.

Anyway to adjust the desktop to 'shrink' into the
viewable area of the monitor?

Thanks,
Paul

Extending the desktop past the boundaries of the screen is a feature of
some display drivers. Check your Display settings (under Advanced and
Advanced > Settings) for this adjustment. If your adapter provides an
additonal interface (perhaps a non-standard item in Control Panel), check
it for settings too.
