screen resolution

I'm wondering if anyone could help:

My screen resolution is locked on the lowest setting 800x600 pixels.
Every time I try and move the setting to the highest, the screen goes weird
and there is a partial view of a box in the far top left corner of the
screen. After a few seconds, the screen goes black and then goes back to the
"normal" low res screen.
Also, I have noticed that on the display properties and settings screen, in
the scroll down menu, it has the option of;
1. Plug and Play Monitor on ATI Radeon X300/X550/1050 Series
2. (Default Monitor) on ATI Radeon X300/X550/1050 Series Secondary

I wouldn't have thought this was abnormal but have noticed that my computer
has a ATI Radeon X600SE. This may just be me looking for a solution but I
downloaded and installed the driver for the Radeon X600 series and it is
still the same.

I would appreciate any tips or advice.
Thanks in advance.

Did you uninstall the previous (X300 etc) driver? I would.

Also check with the monitor manufacturer's web site for a .INF file
for your specific monitor model and install that.

Good luck
