Screen resolution mysteriously changes

For the past two days, when my computer goes to sleep the screen resolution
mysteriously changes, and when I wake it up I find it has gone from 1280x786
to 1680x1050 (highest possible, with tiny icons I can't see). I haven't
changed any settings, haven't installed any updates or new programs: but
something has gone wrong. Any suggestions appreciated!

Many thanks,

Many thanks,
Is it by any chance, connected to a monitor with a native resolution of
1680 x 1050 ( 20-22" LCD)??

Sounds like it's picking up the EDID / DDI from the monitor when waking
up...

As to why now when not before - I have no idea, unless you have recently
changed the monitor. ;-(

Good old system restore may help, if the problem has only gone on for
two days.

Otherwise consider avoiding sleep mode, either by turning your computer
completely off when finished working at it or by leaving it on all the
time(not considered "green")

Thank you for answers: I actually fixed the problem by downloading driver
updates from Intel.

Can you say which drivers you updated? I've had the same problem however, the
computer just came back from repair where they had to install a new hard
drive and reinstall the OS so system restore isn't the answer for me. I
checked in device manager and tried to update display drivers but it said the
current driver was the latest. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
