Screen resolution confusion

I am totally confused by this. I have a new widescreen Samsung, native
resolution is 1920x1200. My graphics card can handle it. I set it to this
resolution, and everything is so small I can't see it. I now have it set to
1024x768 which takes up the entire screen and is easy to read. But I have no
more on the screen than I did with my old 4:3, for instance, my spreadsheets
look the same.

I can raise the resolution to fit more on the screen, but then I can't read
it. And what really bugs me, is that at the higher resolutions I'm only
using two-thirds of the screen. What good is having a widescreen if you
can't use all of it?

If this makes sense to anyone, I would appreciate some clarification.

Go back to 1920x1200 then right-click on the desktop, Personalize, Adjust
Font Size (DPI).

Resolution and relative size go in opposite directions. In other words
the higher you make your resolution the more fits on screen but
everything is relatively smaller so text and numbers are smaller and
therefore harder to read for some. If you spreadsheet only fill
two-thirds the screen that suggests you haven't resized the size of
the actual spreadsheet itself. Try that.

Couple things else you can try. If you're mainly worried about your
spreadsheets and text is still too small it is a simple enough matter
to bump up the text size by highlighting the entire spreadsheet then
picking a larger sized font and then saving. Remember what text size
it was before in case you want to go back.

For reading documents you can go to Control Panel, pick Ease of Access
and try out the Magnifier. It actually works like a magnifying glass,
just move the window over what you're trying to read.

It allows you to see more on your screen, and with sharp crisp edges. But it
also makes it a little harder to read...
use whatever resolution you can see...or wear glasses! LOL
