Screen resolution changes on startup!!!

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop running Win XP Prof. I
have always had my resolution at 1024x768. In the past
couple of days whenever I restart my computer the
resolution gets changed to: 1600x1200 (the maximum
available). What happened? I had a message come up about
the same time from my antivirus that said there was a
problem with cmd32.exe and it quaranteened the file. I
get a message now before the desktop comes up that says
cmd32.exe could not be found. (well I know why that is.)

My question is are these two related? regardless, how can
I fix it?

For the CMD32.EXE issue, This is not a Windows file. The command to run it
is a left over remnant from a virus.
