Screen problem

When my display goes to screen saver and I move the mouse, all is fine. When
it hibernates and I move the mouse, the screen comes on all distorted,
hourglass shape and sometimes it is off center. I change the display on the
bottom of the CRT, but hibernation causes it every time. Has only occurred
the last couple of weeks.

Maybe your monitor is due for service or renewal, the pincushion
effect you describe can be the result of a fading power supply.

Are you running with an UPS? If so, disconnect it
and see if your monitor works okay on regular houshold
current. If it does, perhaps your UPS is biting the dust.
My monitor at the time was showing pincushion effect
and I couldn't adjust the monitor to get rid of it. Through a
process of elimination, isolated the problem to an old
UPS unit. Replaced it and my system has been running fine
for the past three years. I've since replaced my monitor,
too.

If your monitor needs service, most shops will ship it
off. You might be best served to put the money you'd
invest in servicing an old monitor into replacing it with
a new monitor. They're very reasonable these days.

I don't have a UPS, just the outlet. I have not had the monitor serviced,
but it's about 2 1/2 yrs old. Hobby unit only, but it is used about 2-3 hrs
a day. I'll probably live with it until it takes a dump and then I'll grab
a new one.
Thanks for the help.
