screen only comes on once in a while, please help

i bought a new compaq presario 2100 in august 2003. compaq
has been unable to help me, i wonder if its a windows xp
problem. has anyone had this problem? when i turned the
computer on after i got it out of the box, the computer
came on, i heard the music, but the screen was black.
holding down Fn and hitting F2 was useless, nothing
happened. this happened for a few days, then i turned on
the computer and it worked perfectly for a few weeks.
then one day i turn it on, nothing on the screen. doesn't
matter if i'm running it with the cord or with the
battery, sometimes the screen comes on, sometimes it
doesn't. could it be a monitor driver??? Please help.

I am not familiar with the compaq 2100, but most laptops have one of the
function keys marked CRT/LCD. Holding down the Fn key and tapping the key
marked CRT/CLD alternately cycles the video output between the built-in
screen and an auxiliary monitor, or both.

It's probably still under the Compaq warranty. Ask support for a RMA
or return the machine to the store where you purchased it. Don't mess
with it any more.
