screen not displaying after driver update.

I recently went from vista back to xp pro on a new toshiba. I have fought my
way through all the driver updates to get it operational, and the last one I
did (ati radeon x1200 video graphics driver) didn't work. once it was
downloaded and I restarted the system, it won't display a screen after the
loading windows xp screen. I am unable to boot in any safemode options, vga
mode, or last known good config. mode. Is there any way to correct this
problem without having to reinstall windows? I appreciate any feedback on
this issue.

Yeah, I would have stayed with vista, but the owner wanted xp.
the laptop was designed for vista, so toshiba doesn't support it for xp,
therefore when going back to xp I had to go to each specific hardware
provider, atheros, realtek, ati, etc. to get the drivers for xp. It seems
fine except for the video driver screwed everything up. Not sure what to do
at this point, because they already installed all their own software, I'd
hate to have to reinstall everything.

thank you everyone for your feedback. Is their any way to correct this issue
at this point or do I have to reinstall windows?

As you probably know OEM's tweak the hardware for their own m/c's, this
particularly true for Laptops
So the ATI driver from the manu may not work - I seem to recall ATI used to
have a specific warning that mobile devices were only supported via the
laptop manu.
