Screen goes black after downloading nvidia driver from microsoft

I am running XP home. I have numerus times downloaded the
nvidia driver from microsoft updates. Each time after
restarting, the screen goes black, just for a couple of
seconds. There is no error message.It continually does it.
I have had a problem previously with the computer
recovering from a serious fault. When I send error
message to microsoft they reply to download the nvidia
driver. I then have the problem of the black screen.
Anybody help?

Had exactly the same problem, googled for a solution but found none.
Used system restore to go back to previous setttings. Its best to
create a restore point before installing any update, especially if it
concerns a non m/s product.

Have similar problem. The driver through update would crash. An update
for UK English on the Nvidia web site looked promising, but after
installing that the system just re-boots after 30 seconds, and now
can't seem to roll back (because both the new and the old are both
f*cked ?).

Suddenly I am not so keen on updating

Thanks guys I think I found the problem. It works fine

anyway now.
I had a look at the drver settup for my graphics and
found I had two. one was the original driver for nvidia
and the other was from microsoft. I deleted the original
and activated the one from microsoft. All is well now. I
must have had a confliction.It looks like the new driver
does not update the original.
