screen area resolution

Hi,
I had the resolution of my monitor set to 1680x1050 and a couple of
days ago, after a restart, the screen resolution was set to 1600x and
the older resolution of 1680x1050 was no longer available in the screen
area of the desktop properties.... I have tried everything: installed
the newest drivers for my video card and monitor, even tried installing
older version of them and nothing has worked... I've searched in google
for possible solutions, varying the refresh rate to see if I get more
options, but nothing is working....

There might have been a windows update installation between the time
the screen worked and then stoped working...

The video card is: Intel 82865G
The monitor is: Viewsonic Vx2025wm
The computer is a Dell running windows XP.

I hope someone can help!
Thanks!

Have you tried unchecking the box in the monitor tab of the advanced
settings that hides modes that the monitor can not display?

I also have a problem that is similar. I have a laptop with an ati 9200 and
an external 19" widescreen lcd. The resolution that's best supported for the
external LCD is 1440x900 but I cannot find that resolution in the Display
settings even after I uncheck the above box (Hide modes that the monitor
cannot display). Is there a monitor driver file or MS system file that lists
all modes that are possible for the system where I could add in the
widescreen resolution?

Thanks

Did the monitor come with a CD or are there files available on the web
site for the manufacturer? Alternatively you might try ATI Tool Trays
from http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733

I have all the up to day drivers installed from both HP (Laptop
Manufacturer) and the LCD maker. The problem is that the 9200 mobile isn't
supported by ATI so the most up to date driver is from like 1998 and they
didn't have widescreen's at that point. I think there is a file that just
lists all of the possible resolutions that you can put your setting at, does
anyone know where or what this file is or if I am correct?

Have you tried any of the newer drivers from ATI for the Radeon series?
They specify support for the 9200 series.

Yes, I tried that too and it does not work...

I tried deleting all the drivers from the device manager, restarting
the computer and then installing everything from the drive that came
with the monitor... No success either.

I also installed Powerstrip last night to try to set 1680x1050 as a
custom resolution. But it seems that my video card does not allow
custom resolutions...

I did try the new drivers but again, ATI doesn't support mobile devices
before the 9600 mobile. What is the file to edit the available resolutions
and or set up custom resolutions?

Does the KVM support the 1400x900 wide screen? See if you
can download a firmware update for the KVM.

| I also am having a similar problem. Everything was
working fine, then
| after a reboot, the resolution option of 1400x900 was no
longer
| available.
|
| I have the same monitor hooked up to a desk top and a
laptop through a
| KVM switch and it happened on BOTH computers ??? What is
going on?
| Was there a windows update recently that screwed things
up? Both on XP
| Pro.
|
| Whoa... just realized this post is from 2006. But,
nonetheless, I am
| still having this trouble. Any ideas?
