Scheduling delivery of messages in outlook 2000

When I schedule delivery of an email message for three days from now do I
need to leave the machine on and Outlook open?
Can I turn the machine off?
 
If you are connected to an Exchange server you don't have to keep Outlook
open. Otherwise; yes
