As a test suggested by Norton, I set, with the Scheduled Tasks utility, the
Calculator to start when my computer started. It does not start! Norton
says that Automatic Virus Definition Update isn't working because the
Scheduled Tasks is not working correctly.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be with the Scheduled Tasks?

Thanks

In what manner did your Scheduled Tasks stop working?

a) With messages in the Log? If so, please post message #s and text.
b) With no messages in the Log.

The Scheduled Tasks Log is visible by:

Start > Control Panel > Performance & Maintenance > Scheduled Tasks >
Advanced > View Log

If the latter, try this for temporary relief:

Start > Control Panel > Performance & Maintenance > Scheduled Tasks >
Advanced > Stop Using Task Scheduler, followed by Start Using Task
Scheduler.

Please post results back to this thread.

Thanks for the response:

When I did the test (start Calculator when computer booted) the following
was placed in the log:

"Calculator.job" (CALC.EXE) 5/3/2004 3:34:53 PM ** ERROR **
The attempt to log on to the account associated with the task failed,
therefore, the task did not run.
The specific error is:
0x8007052e: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
Verify that the task's Run-as name and password are valid and try again.

I used no password, since I don't have a password for my logon account.
