Scheduled Tasks

Everytime I try to schedule a reminder task (i.e. a Word Notation),I get an
error message that "the task has been scheduled but may not run" Try using
Task Page Browse button instead. The task indeed does not run. I'm not sure
what the error fix note means.
Can you explain it?

Thanks

Hi Vince!

Check if the Task Scheduler service is runing. To do so, right click my
computer and choose manage. At the computer management console on the left
pane expand services and applications and select services. At the right pane
look for task scheduler. Status must be started and startup type should be
automatic, if it isnt double click the service and set it correctly.
Hope it works...

Fred:
It is already on "started and automatic".
Is there an additional check or remedy?

Thanks

Hi Vince,

The problem may be the use of blank password. When u schedule a task u must
enter an user name and a password. If the password is blank, the task wont
run, because, by default, an user account with a blank password as some
limitations.
The obvious fix is to set a password at your account. If u dont want to u
have two choices: create an user account with a password and schedule the
task with that user account, or cut the limitation of blak passwords (no as
secure as the other options).

Hope it works

Fred:

I tried this as much as as I could with no luck.
I've since found that the problem appears to be a vulnerability with XP SP2,
covered by KB 841873. As I look at it, I need to do a work-around that
involves changing the registry (not one of my strong points) or wait for the
next SP.
Is this what I'm up against?

Thanks
