Scheduled Tasks Crashes Explorer.exe

P

Peter K

When I try to use the Add task wizard in Scheduled Tasks,
it hangs after I press the first Next button. I noticed
that explorer.exe starts using lots of cpu (90%+) and its
use of memory slowly grows. All other tasks slow down.
Eventually explorer crashes and restarts.

It's a recent install of XP but I've got Oracle, MS
VS.NET, some java stuff, etc. installed; it's a lot, but
from reliable sources.

I couldn't find any help on support.microsoft.com or
through google. Maybe I've done something wrong.

Anyone else seen similar? Any help is appreciated.

Peter,

How long does the wizard hang after you have pushed the Next button? Have
you sent an error report to Microsoft?

I'm not sure exactly what is going on but I do know when you push the Next
button it tries to find all exe's on your machine. I'm thinking either you
have too many programs installed or possibly the name of one of them might
be corrupt. I wouldn't know for sure unless a dev could do some debugging
on this.

Thanks,
Dennis Davis [msft]
