scf /scannow & INFO in Event Viewer

here is something more
refined:

http://search.dell.com/results.aspx...ra=False&~srd=False&ipsys=False&advsrch=False

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/36788

again, i am not clear as to
what may have prompted you
to do a sfc. however, the
results involved not having
system files/drivers for ehome.

just a quick look at dells site,
it seems ehome is linked to
video and graphics and it is
an integral addition and perhaps
exclusive to the media edition
system you have. if it were
just a regular windows xp,
then you would not need
ehome.

i can only suggest is to review
the above information at the
links. the dell site has a lot
of specialized info exclusive
to your system and you should
take advantage of the opportunity
to understand what ehome is
and get your o.s. "perfect".

if the o.s. is not perfect, then
it will function like a lop sided
wheel, creating incoherent errors
without end. you fix one error
only to have another pop up.

then when the o.s. is perfect,
you can then consider backing
it up. we have a variety of methods
to suggest and you would find
them interesting and helpful.

"BUT", there is little point in
backing up an "imperfect" o.s.
having unknown errors and flaws.

let me know what you discover
about your ehome. double check
your manuals and by all means
get the ehome folder reestablished
so that when you run the sfc again,
it will give you a "clean bill of health"
and you will be ready to proceed
with other projects.

i would like to add to
my prior posting that
even though you don't
use ehome, it does not
mean that your system
and software does not.

if ehome involves video
and graphic drivers, then
your special computer
requires these special
drivers.

--------------------

in regards to backups,
there is a w-i-d-e array
of methodologies and
not one is the perfect
one because the combination
of time, convenience,
system resources, money
resources, et cetera, there
is "no" one backup system
can accommodate everyone.

you mentioned acronis and
i have a recommendation for
them. however, i only use
their disk director program
which is a designed for the
disk, like partitioning.

while many people have their
methods, my rule is to not
put all of ones eggs in a single
basket.

you are using an external device
for your copies of files and this
is a "wise" decision you made.

believe it or not, many people
do not understand this concept,
so i "firmly" believe you are "not"
ignorant as you stated.

another option you have involves
your "large" disk that is "one large
basket". i would not hesitate in
partitioning it - meaning dividing
it up into sections with each having
a drive letter.

like your "external drive" you are
using, the extended partitions
can also be as useful and like
"internal drives"

in regards to acronis imaging
software to image your disk,
it would be safe to say that
it would be a beneficial purchase
as well.

again, if you image are large
partition, you will needs lots
of external media as well to
store your images.

or if your partitions are
smaller, then you would
need less media to store
the images on and can also
be stored on another
partition.

disk imaging, in my experience
is better than the old
backup file method.

Neither of those pages offer anything. The Dell page when I enter my
servicer code comes back with no option for ehome. If I enter my system it
again returns no files are offered.

The other page when you click on any of the links take you to MDUpdate
screen and it does not appear when update is run.

The only option I have is the hotfix that is listed on the Roll-up 2 at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912024/

As far as a backup. I think I agreed with you on that. Why backup
something that is broken? But I do have files to move.

ok,
they do seem to be
dead ends. but it
is my fault because i
am not really taking
the time to research
dell.

----------------------

i found a thread at
dell with the issues
like yours. here is the
link:

http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?s=gen&c=us&l=en&cs=&k=ehcircl.dll&cat=all&x=13&y=9

it seems that there is
an installation dvd from
dell that resolves the problem.

the above would be the
easiest eventhough there
are other methods and best
left for the geeks like using
windows system restore
feature.

for example, if you had an
old restore point to revert
the system to (roll your computer
back to a former time), then
it might be likely that system
restore could re establish
that missing system folder.

then you could copy
that ehome folder and
its files onto a cd.

afterwards you could bring
your system to the present
via a current system restore
point like the one you would
have made yesterday and then
copy the folder from the
cd into the system folder.

the above is just a thought
but could also be substituted
with a system backup and
your factory restore

another could be to do a
"repair" windows and "if" you
had a windows "professional"
setup cd.

but i think this is unlikely
since you have a dell and
only recovery disks. (you
would be lucky if they
even provided you with
recovery disks)

as you can see from the above
it is a bit tricky eventhough it would
be a fun and easy project for
any computer geek.

i think that if you review those
threads at dell you will be
enlightened. also, it would
not be a bad idea to order that
cd / fix from dell.
-------------------------------

in the meantime, copying
your personal files is a
good idea. not many people
would take the time to do
so even when faced with
an imminent crash. your
ok though and no where
near a crash.

here is some additional info
from dell.

http://support.dell.com/support/top...21A861&docid=FF800EF4F40FAEE2E030030ABD62125A

with the exception of the "backup
method" that is yet to be decided,
I think everything else that is
described will be helpful as
a check list.
