Sceen saver, power and weird mouse issues

I have 3 issues which I feel are connected but driving me crazy:

1. Screen saver and auto power down work only intermittently (seems to not
work as well after computer has turned itself on (See #2)
2. Computer turns itself on
3. Left mouse button turns computer on when it is totally off

I am running XP Home SP2 and DSL

Sounds like standby, with 'wake on' settings in the bios.

Wake on LAN: Open Network Connections, in Control Panel, rightclick the LAN icon, Properties, "Configure" button "Power Management"
tab, uncheck "Allow this device to bring the system out of Standby"

There are other BIOS setting for "S3" ('wake on ring', 'wake on mouse' or maybe "allow mouse to ..." , it varies with bios version)
