scanpst.exe fails with Fatal Error: 80040818

Hi,
My Outlook 2007 1.8GB PST file is corrupt! I can't load it even using a new
profile, or in a different computer. Scanpst fails with Fatal Error:
80040818, it can't repair the file.

Running demo version of Recovery for Outlook from officerecovery.com
recovered some email for demostration (it cost $249!). That means the file is
repairable!!!

I couldn't find a solution in Microsoft.com? Is this is an undocumented bug
in Outlook 2007?

Best regards,
Rajesh

No, its not a bug it means scanpst.exe cannot repair the file.
I assume your pst is not one carried over from an earlier version of
outlook, if it is you may have to use the crop tool first (Working on a copy
of course)

That's strange, because I am still below 2gb limit (pst file is only 1.8 GB),
I don't see a point in croping the file. First of all, I wonder why Outlook
2007 didn't warned me in the first place? Is it so dumb (or the programmers)?
Nothing in the error handling routine? It's disgusting...

If it is an older version file then problems can occur from 1.6gb
The unicode format file has a limit of 20gb but can be extended.
No version of Outlook gives a size warning unless the registry has been
modified for pst size, or maybe you are in an exchange environment.
You can allways try chkdsk

I'll disagree with DL on this one. I believe I saw a KB article that said OL
2003/7 by default should warn you when your ANSI PST is larger than it
should be, but I can't find it now. That said, the article discussing the
file size limits is here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832925/en-us

The fatal error 80040818 you are getting is due to oversized PST file so in order to fix it, the best is to use PST Repair tool which is highly capable to fix up PST corruption issues regardless of any reasons. You have to make only few simple clicks and fatal error 8004818 gets resolved in minutes.
