scanning a signature

I have scanned a signature onto my computer. How do I get rid of the white
space around the signature so that I am able to cut and paste it to a
signature line in a Word document?

Open the graphic file in photo editing software and crop it. If you save it
as a GIF, you can set white as the transparent color, which will allow you
to place the graphic over the signature line and have the line showing
through so that the appear to overlap.
