Scanner won't install

Using XP SP2. Had a UMAX 3400 installed, working fine. Because the bulb was
going bad purchased a refurbished UMAX model 4400. Have tried and tried, with
lots of help trying from UMAX tech, and cannot get it to load. Reutrned it
for replacement. Now trying to reload my old model 3400 and cannot get it to
operate. Have unabled Anti-Spy and Anti-Virus, didn't help. Keep getting
messages like "VistaScan 3.75 has encountered a problem and needs to close".
Asking for suggestion out of frustration. I doubt now, there wasn't anything
wrong with the 4400 I've returned for replacement. It appears that something
is not allowing the software to work?
Any hep or ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks,
A. Martin

Go to your C drive-open,
VistaScan folder-open,
Vista 32-right click, properties-open,
Compat.mode- open: If you do not have anything checked - then put a check in
98.
Apply & Ok.
Then try to open the Vista Scan: Start, Programs, Vista Scan.
If still not working download patch:
ftp://67.66.169.205/scanners/vistascan/version3.75/winXP/vs375u_382upd.exe
