Scanner error message

My scanner was working fine for years until today it wouldn't work and there
was an error message that said "Scanner Link Failure". I checked all the
cables to make sure they weren't loose but they were fine. Does any one
know what the problem might be?

Did you reboot computer?
 
Yes I did - but maybe it just died. I've had it for about 7 years.
