Scanner and Outlook Express

Our scanner is an Hp 5300C and our OS is WXp Home. We recently purchased an
HP Pavilion 9010 laptop and are having difficulty with the scanner sending
scans to Outlook Express. OE is listed as a destination in the scanner
software but when we try to send a scan to outgoing mail we receive the
following error message:

"MAPIDEST
Send mail failed to send message"

The scanner seems to be working fine and we can send scans to any other
program (Word, Photoshop, Paint, etc.). the problem is limited to OE.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I doubt that Outlook Express is a valid destination for a scanner document.

You can sent images as attachments in Outlook Express, but it does need to
be a file attached to an outgoing Email message. Or the Email must be in the
HTML format to embed an image.

There is an email function built into Irfanview, where you can send scanner
documents via Email.
You must have the plugins to send email via Irfanview.

Thanks for the quick reply.

In addition to sending email attachments directly to OE via the built in
scanner software, which lists OE as a destination, we were able to send
these attachments by simply pressing a button, marked email, on the front of
the scanner. This function worked fine with our previous Toshiba laptop.
An email message box would open with the scanned item already attached and
we only had to address the email and send it.

OE is the same as before and so is the scanner. The only change is the new
laptop which should simply receive the scanned item.

The error message seems to indicate that the fault is a scanner function
called "send mail" and some incompatability with the Hp laptop????

Looks like a destination problem. Go into the Camera&Scanner control Panel.
Start the Troubleshooter and search for MAPI. Good Luck.
