scandisk found errors

i booted and got the message vmm32.vxd is needed to load
windows. i need to reload windows but when it runs scan
disk at the beginning of the setup it find errors in the
C:/windows/system/________ <--- and right there it has
what appears to be middle easten writing or
something.when i fix that one the next is the same way.
what would cause this

Vmm32.vxd is not a WinXP system file, it is from a Win9x system. Are you in
the proper group?

Not only that, but scandisk doesn't exist in WinXP either!
