I used to run a utility called ScanDisk to see if there were any bad blocks
on my disk. I can't find this utility in XP. What should I be doing to
find bad blocks?

Start button --> Help and Support

Search for "Scandisk"

You'll find your answer - but to give it to you in a short fashion..

CHKDSK

Win XP has a version called CheckDisk.
To use CHKDSK click- Start/My Computer/rightclick on the drive you wish to
check/Properties/Tools/Check Now/put a check in both option boxes/Start.
At your next bootup, CHKDSK will run. Be patient - It can take a while.

just go to start>run then typr CHKDSK will automatically run thes scadisk if
you like to call it that.

Thanks to all!

I ran it and was surprised there was no feedback. I don't know if it found
and/or fixed any problems. Is that the expected behavior?

Right click on My Computer, select Manage, Event Viewer, Application,
look at Winlogon entries.

Close but not right.

XP does not have ANY version of scandisk; in fact, scandisk has never
existed in any version of NT. The NT architecture has always used
chkdsk.
