Scan may not work on USB Multifunction Printers

D

David Langen

I have an HP PSC 1210 all in one printer scanner copier
using Windows XP.

When trying to scan, I receive an erroe message that
Windows cannot communicate with the device. I am able to
print, but I cannot scan.

I visited HP's web site which sent me to you stating
there is a Hot Fix available. The Microsoft bulletin # is
Q320549.

Actually, I've just gone through this with a client's HP 1210
all-in-one. Download the HP uninstall utility from their site and the
new drivers. Now, use the Add/Remove Programs applet and remove the
1210 that way. Next, unplug the HP and use HP's uninstall utility. I
know this seems like overkill, but apparently HP's software is written
worse than ever. Trust me on this. Now you can run the new drivers.
Install them first and follow the install wizard as to when you can
hook up the 1210 to the computer again. Now the scanning part should
work.
