Scan Disk

when i tried to run scan disk with automaticly fixing
system erors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad
sectors option i got the following message:

The disk check could not be performed because the disk
check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows
files on the disk. These files can be accessed only by
restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule this disk
check to occur the next time you restart the computer?

after i restarted the computer, right before windows
loaded, the computer attempted to perform a scandisk
again, told me that i had NTFS format but then said that
it " cannot open volume for direct access"

now each time i turn on my computer i keep getting this
message. Any ideas on why that is so and how i could
correct it?

This is associated with installing version 5 of Zone Alarm. There is
now an upgrade build 043 that is supposed to fix the matter, or else go
back to the previous version 4
