"scandisk" is a Windows 9x/ME program, and does not exist in Windows XP. To
repair HDs in XP, use "chkdsk /f" at a Command Prompt, or
1) open "My Computer
2) right-click on the HD in question
3) click on "Properties"
4) click on "Tools" tab
5) click on "Check now" (under "Error checking")
6) make sure at least "Automatically fix file system errors" is checked.
7) click on "Start"
Once you click "Start", you will have to reboot to check the HD.
