I am trying to scan an image and use it in a powerpoint presentation. I
scanned an image , following the scannign directions, I saved it to the
powerpoint application, then I copied the image and pasted it onto a slide.
the copy and paste occured and the image was entered onto the slide, I saved
the actions, however, when I close the file and re-open it, the image does
not appear. there is an outline of the image with a red x inside a small box
at the right top corner of the slide.

Try saving the file as JPG, GIF, or PNG file. Then, don't copy and paste.
Instead, in PowerPoint, go to the Insert menu, and choose Picture from
file.

Yes, the one downfall I have found is PP has a hard time "remembering" such
things that are dropped in..same with video.

Best to save pics to word and cut and past or save as JPEG or similiar.

Good luck!
