Hi,

I need to create a script to edit the behaviours of the
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service I want to change the
default behaviours on Recovery, from Reboot on Recovery to
No Action Taken.

Can I do this using sc.exe?

Any ideas Folks???????????

sc /?
See the line:
failure---------Changes the actions taken by a service upon failure.

But, before we get into that, WHY do you want to change this? Because
computers are spontaneously rebooting? Tell me that your computers are
patched with current updates.

I am not sure if u specifically want to create a script but the ultimate aim
is to modify the behaviour of RPC and this can be done by access Control
Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > RPC.
But u probably know this already.

Hi Ray

Very perceptive, I do happen to have a problem with my
PC's reboot but the problem is that I am on a WAN some of
the computers I have no control over so cant patch them
all. so I just want to change the behaviour of the RPC
service for obvious reasons (Blaster etc.)

I have had a look at SC /? but there is nothing in there
about recovery is this because this is just something in
Win2k/XP?

Thanks Ray of hope :)

I absolutely refuse to take part in this kind of reasoning. I'm sorry. If
you aren't patching your computers, get them off the Internet so they aren't
sitting there adding to the problem.

Take the infected PCs off the network. Get the patches and worm removal
tools downloaded on another working and clean machine and burn to CD or
other media you can use then FIX the problems. You're chasing your tail,
you'll get nowhere at all and in the meantime as long as your infected
machines are on the network they are causing traffic and trying to
infect others.
