SB16 ISA

I have a legacy Soundblaster 16 card in a ISA slot. After upgrading from Windows98 SE to XP, I'm having problems.

Checking the control panel, the sound device panel is ghosted and the legacy sound driver panel is blank. I tried to load a driver from Creative. The support web site does not have a driver for an SB16 ISA card for windows XP

I assume that XP is not recognizing the old sound card because it is not Plug and Play(?)

Does windows XP support older cards like this

It's not recognising it because it's prehistoric! I had one in a P90 - and
that's going back nearly 15 years! C'mon drag your butt into the 21st
century! PCI cards aren't expensive - you can pick up a basic Audigy for
under £30.

Come on! I have a AWE64 ISA in XP on a P-III 866Mhz.

James: You need to "reserve" on IRQ in the computer BIOS for ISA/NON-Plug
and Play. Usually need IRQ5.

I believe that XP doesn't autodetect ISA cards, even if they're Plug & Play
ISA.

However, XP supports ISA devices. XP includes built-in drivers for the SB16.
Use the add hardware wizard, and follow it through to do a manual
installation of the Creative "Sound Blaster 16 or Awe 32 (WDM)" drivers.

This ought to work, although it has been a while since I installed an ISA
device under XP. My last couple of mainboards have had no ISA slots.

Good luck.

I am running a Vibra 16 (ISA) with no hassles. XP picked it up with no problems.
This is the last OS you may see support on it though. Longhorn does not have support for it.
