I cannot get the sound card to work. The creative drivers refuse to see the
card, while the Kx drivers see it and install fine. Everything appears to be
fine but there is no sound.
Where to start?
I've done the obvious.

Go here and check the information. I don't think you have
a Creative card. I believe that the 1024 is an OEM version
which should have an install cd using ctzapxxx

Maybe you didn't try one of the most obvious things which is to plug the
audio jack not in the green front-out, but in the black rear-out... The Kx
drivers swap the rear and front outputs by default because the rear output
features external audio filters that are better than the built in audio
filters on the front output... So if you only have a stereo set, plug the
jack into the black output, not the green output when using the Kx drivers.

I have a SBLive! card, and it requires me to install the drivers from
the CD before it will allow me to update them with drivers from the
creative site.

Go through the advanced setups and check the CD or Line In Mute checkbox,
this seems to happen a lot when new software is installed or configuration
changes are made to anything that works with the soundcard... May need to
check in a couple of places to get it going...
