Saving Window Position/Size

Had to rebuild XP system from scratch after hard disk failure. I open Windows
Explorer and position and size the window. To have window position and size
remembered, you have to use a hot-key while clsoing the window.

What is this hot-key?

No luck finding this basic info on web or Microsoft site.

In older version of Windows, holding Ctrl while clicking the X helped to
set the window. In all versions of windows, just repeating the same size
for several closes will eventually be recognized and maintained as your
preferred setting. It may just be my imagination but it seems to me that
using File> Close instead of clicking on the X seems to speed this process
along.

An exception is the "secondary browser window" if using IE6 (and possibly
IE7 without tabs): Extra care is needed to stay on top of the size these
windows will open to. Resize them manually and take care that it is the
last IE window closed to get the size remembered. NOTE - example of a
secondary window: right click on an URL and select "open in new window."

Thanks Sharon.

I thought it was the CTRL key but it doesn't seem to work on my system. I
kept resizing the window as you said and eventually it stayed in the position
and size I selected.

Window size and position is the most basic function that windows can do
since version Windows 386. Why this simple function is so hard to do is
beyond me. And why this non-functionality hasn't been fixed in any version
since Windows 386 is beyond me.

The CTRL key method was dropped and never worked consistently. I'm glad
your windows "stuck" finally.

Nodding in agreement and very much appreciate the "per folder" "per file"
and "per window" settings that are available on the Mac operating system.
