"Saving" to Active Directory

We are implementing 2003 Active Directory and want to use
the shared folders in OU's as a way for users to access
resources. We have discovered that while you can open
resources thourgh the directory the shared folders in a OU
don't show up when saving through an appication. Is there
a way for users to save back to where they opened the
resource without having to know how to navigate network
neighborhood? I know we can map the drives, but I thought
I had heard that Microsoft has said to keep away from map
dives and also mapping drives defeats the purpose of using
shared folders in AD as a resource. Thanks for any help
you can provide!

You do understand these are 'just' AD pointers or reference
object to the real shares, right?

Assign drive letters to them. The idea behind "shared folder"
publishing is to make it so that users who DO KNOW how
to navigate -- search AD -- can find resources.

Shared folders is a poor substitute for Network Neighborhood
and drive letter mapping. It's a work in progress....
