How do I save My Email Files from Outlook Express when I
upgrade my OS from Win 98SE to Windows XP Home or Pro? I
tried upgrading directly, but the upgrade erased all my
saved files. I have tried to copy them to a backup file,
but the file structure in Outlook is not recognizable. I
had to uninstall Win XP to restore the lost files. Please
help as I need the upgrade as soon as I can get this
resolved. There are several hundred emails that I need to
save.
Thanks,
John

Outlook Express saves all its e-mail in the message
store. Tools - Options - Maintenence - Store Folder

Copy ALL files in this folder AND search your computer
for *.WAB files. Copy all of them too. .WAB files are
your address books.

Greetings

For your mail:
Right Click properties on the inbox in outlook express.
It will show you the folder that stores all the messages.
Just backup this folder.

For your email account:
Tools->Accounts in outlook express
Select the Mail tab
Export the email accounts one by one.
Backup these exported accounts (.iaf) files

When you have an XP system up and running

For your email account:
Tools->Accounts in outlook express
Select the Mail tab
Import the email accounts one by one.

For your mail:
file->import in outlook express
Messages
Ms Outlook Express 6
Import mail from an OE store directory
Point to the folder

Done.

Hope this helps
