Saving or viewing .tif attachments from outlook on Vista and XP

Gadgetgw

I receive a series of about 30 emails each week containing files named

outlok.tif
I commence viewing/saving each email and when I get to about the 20th email

Outlook will no longer save or preview the .tof attachment. Other

attachments seem to be ok.

I occurred on two different computers, on Vista and the next week XP.

I have cleared the temp directory and re-booted the system.

Are you cleaning windows Temp or the Securetemp folder
(http://www.slipstick.com/OUTLOOK/securetemp.htm)
Does it work for a bit after clearing securetemp?
If you close the attachment before closing the message or viewing another
message, does it work better?

when i cleared the securetemp folder on both the XP and Vista computers the
process works again.

When is was in the folder it had the tif image, orig name output.tif, in
there renamed output01.tif to output99.tif, it looks like there is a two
digit suffix numbering of files with the same name and therefor a max of 100
files. This would explain why this worked the first week with the 30 odd
emails (as there may have been quite a few from last year.) and when it hit
output99 it gave up.

I will need to write a script to regularily empty securetemp to avoid the
problem or I'll get it every 3 weeks os so with the 30-40 emails with same
output. The outputs are actually faxes received by my Telcom and forwarded to
me by email. I don't need to save or print most of them just see them in
preview.

thanks

Graeme

It sounds like you figured it out. :) If you open the image and close it
before doing anything else, you shouldn't have a problem as outlook will
delete the temp file. The problem occurs when the email is no longer in the
preview pane or is closed while the attachment is open.
