Saving Movie with different file format??

R

Roln

I need to learn how to save a movie to a CD with a format other than .WMV,
so it can be played on a DVD player.
My DVD player will play a lot of formats, but not .WMV.
I've looked at the options for saving a movie, but only see options for file
size, not to change the format.
How do I save to an MPEG format, or any other format that will play on any
DVD player??

Roln,

You need to save the movie as a WMV or DV-AVI file and then use other
software to make the CD.

See the CD Burning section of my website for some info about various apps
people use.

Hello there,

For usefull and practical info go to www.nero.com (A Proffesional Company)
and grab Nero 6 (30 day free trial)...the steps to follow are then..

1) Create your movie with movie maker, click on FILE > SAVE MOVIE FILE and
choose the DV-AVI option....

2) Start Nero Vision Express 3 and select Make a VCD option

3) Import your viseo from step one above....use availabl;e options to
create a nice menu system and click on BURN

OK its not exactly that easy.....the steps missed are Insert Blank CD
:):)

Hi John, and thanks for the info.

I have Nero 6 installed on my computer, but have never used it.....yet. A
friend told me it's a very complex program, but a good one and will take
awhile to learn it's potential.

After I posted my query, I called a friend that does a lot of video
recording and he strongly suggested I forget about putting movies on CD's
and to get a DVD burner. I guess that's what I should do and quit messing
around trying to make something work with minimal results.

I checked and found out the DVD burners have come down in price
considerably. There are a lot of makes and models to choose from, however.

Hello,

Nero is anything except complicated, but as it is with all things you
should try it at least once before giving up on it.

As far as DVD's go....yes they are many times superior to VCD or SVCD and
the drives are very cheap. Nero will still fill your needs if you decide to
buy a new burner....it deals with everything up to and including Dual Layer
DVD (One of the formats I use)

John,

I have 26 days left to try Nero and I plan on getting a DVD burner within
the next two weeks and then I will focus my attention to Nero.
I'm confused with all the format options available with DVD burners. +
and -, dual and double and others. I plan on spending considerable time
today and learn what I can before I choose a certain brand.
Personally, I think us consumers are being pushed into buying a piece of
technology, which will be obsolete with a short period of time. Why do I
say this, you ask? Look what happened to the CD market. Single speed
first, then dual and eventually quad speed. Next, a 16 speed and so on and
finally a 52 speed. I fear the same thing will happen to the DVD market
and us consumers will continue to have empty pocketbooks......if we want to
keep up.

Hello,

This will have to be brief because I am going out v.soon

I can recomend the new Sony Dual Layer burners. They do every type of
disc presently available...I have two of them and had only one problem....I
bought some cheap dvd disks from a local computer store at christmas...they
had sold out of the good stuff....and they were all failures....got money
back from store though.

Using Nero 6 you can burn to an IMAGE FILE rather than a disk...you can
then use Nero to mount that image and it will perform exactly the way a
real dvd player will perform......its what I di so that I can check the
disk before burning it to a disk....it also helps out if the burn gets
messed up for some reason....you can burn another straight away. The obious
comment you must have at least the size of the target DVD disk spare to do
this.
