saving images

can anyone here suggest the best format for storing images. jpg is widely
used but i beleave that you can damage your image if you edit it and save it
to often, any truth in that. thanks for your time

Repeated JPEG saves will degrade the image. Keep a master of the original
image, then do manipulation and sizing on the copy. BMP, TIFF, or
uncompressed may yield best quality.

When the image is as you want it, create a .jpg of it, using an
appropriate amount of compression to reduce file size.
