saving images, but only with .bmp as extension

hi, i have a problem with saving images such as jpg or
gif. when i try to save it, the only extension option
is .bmp, which is about 3 times the size of jpg or gif. i
already know the method of deleting all the temporary
internet files, and it worked a few times, but recently i
tried that method and it did not work. i have already
read the other method stated on the microsoft help page
on this issue, but i still cannot save with another
extension. i know that all i have to do is add .jpg
or .gif to the end of my file name i want to save with,
but it is not as convenient as choosing the extension,
and also i want to know the solution. so does anyone know
another method to solve this problem other than the
clearing temporary internet files one?

Thanks in advance, i appreciate it.
