saving from Mac OS X

I have created MS word files using mac OS X and want to save them into a version that a pc user with an old version of word can read. Any ideas? the options for save as don't give me windows, only mac versions.
 
How old a version? From Word 97 onward, it's the same file format, and there
should be no problem with basic text files. Sometimes problems arise if the
PC user has not properly updated their Word, and graphics and macros can get
tricky.

To be really safe and avoid the possibility of problems, save as RTF.
